As Lent season comes to an end this year, thousands of Christian believers gathered together to celebrate the sacred holiday of Easter this past weekend and many more will continue to do so on Sunday, April 16th, including the Christian community in Jordan.

Easter is an important holiday in Christianity that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many Christian citizens believe that the event occurred three days after Jesus was crucified and died. Easter concludes the 40-day period of fasting, prayer and sacrifice, which is known as Lent. Each year, the Lent period begins over a month prior to Easter.

In the holy Bible, the verse 1 Peter 1:3 states: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” For many people, Easter is a holiday that represents new life, rebirth, and renewal, which the Bible beautifully explains.

In Jordan, Easter is a public holiday with members of the Jordanian community celebrating the special event by visiting the homes of loved ones, enjoying a festive meal with friends and family, or attending a mass at one of the many churches in the kingdom. During Easter weekend, many Jordanians also plan weekend trips to Jordan's coastal city of Aqaba or to the Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on Earth to celebrate the holiday.
